Animal Fungal Testing

Why Fungus?

Fungal infections in dogs and cats are often caused by exposure to fungal spores in the environment, which can be inhaled or ingested. These infections can be difficult to diagnose, and if left untreated, they can lead to serious health complications, including lung disease, meningitis, and even death.

Unfortunately, because clinical signs of fungal infections are often shared with viral and bacterial infections and cancers, fungal infections tend to be undiagnosed or misdiagnosed. This can lead to delayed treatment and poorer health outcomes for pets. By increasing awareness about the risks associated with fungal infections and promoting the importance of fungal testing in diagnostic protocols, we can improve the overall health and well-being of pets.

Our solution.

At Colt Neck Labs, we strive to make fungal testing accessible and affordable for all veterinarians and pet owners. Our PCR-based testing method is highly accurate, non-invasive, and requires only a small urine sample, making them an easier option for detecting fungal infections in dogs and cats. By including fungal testing in their diagnostic protocols, veterinarians can provide more comprehensive care and improve outcomes for their patients.

How to send for a test.

  • Collecting a urine sample from a dog or cat is a non-invasive and straightforward procedure that can be performed by a pet owner or a veterinarian. Collect 2-8 ml urine by free catch or by cystocentesis in a non-preservative urine tube, and ship specimen to our lab.

  • Our urine collection form is designed to ensure that samples are collected correctly and efficiently, and that they arrive at our lab in the best possible condition for testing.
Additionally, please fill out client registration form for our company to have proper billing information.

  • We recommend shipping specimens using an ice block since some Aspergillus strains are sensitive to shipping-heat.  Please use FedEx Priority overnight, FedEx 2nd day AM, or UPS Next Day Air and schedule delivery for Monday- Friday 8:00 am - 4:00 pm. The shipping address is Fungal Diagnostics, 881 Corporate Dr., Lexington, KY 40503. To request shipping boxes, email your clinic's name and address to info@coltnecklabs.com.
